Christopher Gans was born and raised in Joliet Illinois, approximately 35 miles southwest of Chicago. Surrounded by bridges and barges, train tracks and a Commonwealth Edison plant and a tractor trailer driven by his father, he nurtured an appreciation for the functionality of things. Chris spent eight years on the East Coast in Baltimore then Washington D.C. where he first began taking photographs. A course in forensic photography introduced the technical aspects of photography, and pure enjoyment drove the rest. Chris moved to Chicago in 2001 and shifted his camera from crime scenes and footprints to the city and all of it’s parts: bridges and buildings, train tracks and power lines.
